Mangaluru : The venue of protests in the city – the entrance to the Deputy Commissioner’s office – is likely to be shifted to another permanent location, like Freedom Park in Bengaluru, shortly.
Following demand for the same at a peace committee meeting here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that the district administration will consult the Mangaluru City Corporation for allotting a permanent location for it and a decision to this effect would be taken soon.
Speakers at the meeting said that many speakers made provocative statements at protest meetings in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Such statements drew the attention of many and it gave scope for flaring communal feelings.
They took out processions from Ambedkar Circle to the DC office holding traffic. The venue should be shifted for both reasons, they added.
A participant suggested that henceforth while allowing protests, the reason for holding the protest should be recorded while giving permission.
If the protesters or organisations deviated from the purpose for which permission had been granted, criminal cases should be booked against them.
The speakers said that all protests should be allowed in a place which would not result in traffic jam and disturb normal life of people.
