Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Administration has decided to declare that Sasihithlu Beach, situated around 20 kilometers north from Mangaluru would be exclusively dedicated to surfing.
The beach is surrounded by the beautiful island ‘Munda;’ with the Shambhavi and Nandini Rivers on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other, the place is a remarkable tourist attraction. It also boasts of the confluence of the Shambavi River with the Arabian Sea.
It is said that the beach was lesser known to the masses and thus has remained virgin so far. The tides on the beach make it an ideal destination for safe surfing.
Coastal Karnataka Tourism and the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the second edition of the Indian Open Surfing in May this year.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jasani from Mangalore Surf Club demanded that surfing be promoted at Panambur Beach stating that Sasihithlu Beach was too far from the city.
