Mangalore: Various eminent men took part in a satyagraha that was organised in front of the DC office in Mangalore on December 12, Wednesday, requesting for a good compensation package to the Endosulfan affected people at the earliest.
The Satyagraha was organised by PV Mohan, a Congress leader and social activist. Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes too visited the Satyagraha venue and addressed the agitators.
Addressing the participants, JR Lobo, former Mangalore Commissioner, expressed his concern over the failure of the government to ensure adequate compensation to the Endosulfan affected people until now.
Prof. Vishwanath, lecturer said he was not happy with the survey of the Endosulfan affected people done by the government and stressed the need to find out the right number of people who were affected by the deadly pesticide.
Shakuntala Shetty, former Puttur MLA who also spoke and said more rehabilitation centres should be opened for Endosulfan affected people.
N Ismail, Principal, Badria College,Muneer Katipalla, DYFI leader, Appi, Corporator and others took part in the protest.
