Holenarasipur: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, on Monday, said, an affidavit will be filed in the Supreme Court seeking rectification of the error made by the Attorney General, who had earlier agreed to the apex court’s order to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.
Addressing media persons, at MLA H D Revanna’s residence in Holenarsipur, Hassan district, he said, the Supreme Court does not have the powers/jurisdiction to issue orders on the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board. All are keenly watching the next step of the state government in this regard. But, the state government should also cooperate with the Centre, he opined.
Gowda said, he has held discussions with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi over the Cauvery issue and is confident of a positive response.
“It is unfortunate that the people of the state could not use the water from the KRS dam, that was constructed by our kings and people”. Upset over the developments, I had staged a protest near the Gandhi’s statue in Bengaluru recently, but I had to end the fast yielding to the requests made by prominent leaders. It is not possible to keep quiet over the issue. I am ready even to sacrifice my life for the state and for the farmers’ interests,” he said.
The review petition, submitted by the state government over the Cauvery Tribunal’s verdict, is coming before the Supreme Court on October 18. Notices have been sent to all the four states in this regard. There is some hope that the verdict would be in favour of Karnataka, Deve Gowda said.
The review petition submitted by the state, following the decision taken during the special legislature session will come for hearing on October 6. We have to wait and watch both the developments, Gowda said.
