Ujire : Dharwad, Haveri and Belgaum districts were provided 4370 pairs of Desk with Benches, by Dharmasthala Foundation at a function arranged in JSS College of Dharwad recently. Dr Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari presided.
In his address, Dr. Heggade stated that it was possible to attract rural children to the Kannada medium schools by not only raising the standard of teaching, but also providing better facilities to the learners (students) as well. But the voluntary service organisations have to join hands with the govt, in a PPP (partnership), he urged. Dharmasthala is actively pursuing this aim by supplementary activities, he explained. The SDM institution has supplied by way of donation, 27243 pairs of desk – bench pairs to 4,578 govt schools in 15 districts in the last 2 years, Dr. Heggade revealed.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala is in the fore front of serving the cause of serving educational standards by creating fresh facilities at he school levels in many regions of the state, for young students. About 1.50 lakhs of rural students now have better seating and writing facilities in govt. schools, Dr Heggade pointed out.
Belgaum MP, Suresh Angadi handed the SDM letter of distribution (of desk – bench pairs) to the Dy Director of public Instruction (DDPI). He extolled the rural development works, achieved by Sri Kshetra, as progressive.
Dr. L.H. Manjunath, Executive Director of rural programmes vouchsafed for the improvement made by students in better conditions, in attendance, learning capacity and writing notes etc, as per a survey. Over Rs 30 crores were spent on infrastructural facilities under welfare schemes relating to schools of Sri Kshetra he said.
SDM Education Trust Vice President Prof. N. Vajra Kumar was present to make the event a success.
Deputy Director of Education department for Belgaum, Dharwad and Haveri Districts, Bhaskar Bhat, S.B. Kodli and V.M. Patil received the letters of distribution for desks and benches in their areas. Dr. C.S. Rajagopal and Dr. Ajit Prasad were present on the occasion.
