Mangaluru : Schools and pre-university colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district will not reopen from Monday, August 23.It is because the COVID-19 positivity rate in the district has not come down below 2%.

The education department said that it is not going to allow schools to reopen from Monday in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Hassan and Chikkamagalur districts where the positivity rate was more than 2%. However, as the districts of Hassan and Chikkamagalur reported less than 2% positivity rate, the schools in these districts are opening from Monday.

A communique from the office of Deputy Director of Pre-University Department has warned that disciplinary action will be taken against such colleges which will conduct offline classes from Monday.

As per the weekly statistics released by corona war room Dakshina Kannada has 3.2% and Udupi district has 2.8% positivity rate.
