Mangalore : N. S. Channappa Gowda, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, called a meeting of school authorities in his office on April 30 Monday to discuss the implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act and the government circular issued in 2011, as demanded by AHINDA.
During the meeting, he directed the correspondents of aided and unaided primary schools that they should strictly follow the rules set down in the circular issued by the department of public instructions on Dec 8, 2011. He also said that they should follow the admission schedule mentioned in the circular strictly.
Mohammed Beary, the president of the DK and Udupi English Medium Schools Association, said on the occasion that the minimum fee prescribed by the public instruction department is not scientific. Stating that it is difficult to run schools because they do not earn income, but have to pay salaries to the teaching and non teaching staff while simultaneously developing school infrastructure, he said that schools find themselves investing more money without expecting any returns and feel that the minimum fee structure imposed by the government is unreasonable.
The DC was also informed that the government has not recognized a number of unaided minority schools in the district.
The DC said that action will be taken to include these schools in the list of unaided minority schools and that he will write about it immediately to the state government.
