Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Library Association, Udupi in association with SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore observed ‘Librarians Day’ which is celebrated as Dr S R Ranganathan’s Day was held at Conference Hall of SDM College on October 20, Wednesday.
Dr Oscar Fernandes, Chairman, Parliamentary Committee HRD, Govt of India, inaugurated the event and said that the librarian is the person who has access over all the books in the library. But today they have the capacity to access all the books available in the world.
He also said that, in this IT revolution all libraries are connected to each other, our parliamentary library is the richest library in the country, he informed.
To know the educational value of the institution, one must visit the library located within the colleges. This advance knowledge gained through library puts country on the top.
Further the librarian movement must be continued by all and every one must simultaneously start writing and reading the books. He stated that library provide bundles of knowledge, he added.
Dr Manjunath K, president of Chief Librarian, TAPMI welcomed the guests. Rashmi Prabhu, lecturer of SDM College compered the programme. Dr Devaraj K, principal, SDM College of Business Management presided over the function.
Prof T H Eranna, regional joint director, Dept of Collegiate Education participated as the Guest of Honour. Prof A K Baradol, chairman, Dept of Library and Information Science delivered the key note address on the occasion.
