Someshwara, Ullal: In view of Shravana Amavasya, a special Pooja (worship/waving of light) by devotees was offered to Sri Somanath at his historic temple in an age-old fort on Tuesday, by the seashore. Hundreds of people had a cool dip in the morning at sunrise in the waves of the sea. No untoward incident was reported. Devotees came from all ports of the DK dt, to Someshwara beach, even before dawn to have the holy bath and pay their flower and fruit offerings to the deity.
Coastal divers and guards who were members of a life-savers’ organization, were seen guarding families of devotees from drowning.
Ullal police provided good care and bandobust to the special occasion. There were intermittent rains day and night on Tuesday, as several people among Hindus (Shravan), Christians (Mother Mary’s Monthi Fest) and Muslims (Ramzan) were observing ritual or vows or fasts in a festive season.
