Mangaluru : The second bike ambulance in Mangaluru was launched at Ullal on Sunday by U.T. Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare. The first such ambulance launched here in May has been stationed at Mangaluru City Corporation, according to Ramakrishna Rao, district health and family welfare officer. He said a trained paramedical staff would handle the second ambulance. One would have to call 108 to get its services like the earlier one. The ambulance at Ullal would come in handy to cater to the needy outside the central business district area of the city. It would especially help during accidents if any on the Mangaluru-Kasaragod highway. Mr. Khader said the State government had procured 32 bike ambulances. While 20 such ambulances were being used in Bengaluru, the remaining were being placed or would be placed in other six municipal corporations. Two bike ambulances were being given to each of these municipal corporations. Mr. Khader said there has been a good response to bike ambulances which facilitate immediate attention to persons injured during road accidents.
