Mangaluru : The police have arrested VHP, Bajrang Dal activist in Uaibettu as the Section 144 has been imposed in the area from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m .
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajarang Dal have called for a bandh on Monday around the Gurupura area to condemn the December 5 incident of attack on Datta Peetha Pilgrims at Ulaibettu.
Vamanjoor, Kaikamba, Yekkar, Kuppepadavu, Yedapadavu, Kateel and Neermarga areas has been shut down for Bundh Call.
Early morning on Monday hundreds of VHP, Bajrang Dal activists gathered at Vamanjoor to protest against the recent attack and they demanded to take serious action against culprits. The protesters attempted to enter at Ulaibettu, but the police were stopped, some protesters started to stone pelting. The police had to resort Lathi charge to stop the protesters, two women were injured.
The police have arrested protestors in two buses, now the situation is under control. Police said
Police Commissioner R. Hithendra said prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were being clamped within a 1.5-km radius of Ulaibettu from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Essential services, religious places and schools will be exempted.
The police have increased the security and called for additional platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police to ensure peace.
