Mangalore: The RTO officials and traffic police threw a dragnet today over 12 private Qualis vans, doing unauthorized hired business for a private company trying to promote its own business on wheels, by hiring the vehicles for a month in city.
Joy Alukkas (jewellers) opening a new branch in Falnir, had hired about 20 vehicles to carry on publicity for them, just prior to the start of business. The management of these cars was given to Priya travels, but the latter selected only a few out of the lot, and used other private vehicles obtained from Udupi, Puttur, Madikeri and Maharastra etc, on their own.
This infuriated the DK.dt Taxis and Maxicabs Drivers’ Association members who went after the outsider vehicles, and detected unauthorized private hirers.
They were prevented from running their unauthorized vehicles in DK, by the Union members who protested near Hotel Hindustan, and forced the RTO /Police authorities to take note and seize the unauthorized vehicles.
In the open demonstration against the unauthorized Qualis vehicles, DK Taximen’s Association secretary Sathish M. Bhat, Pramod Kumar Ullal, and supporters from All India Karmika Sangha led by Sudatta Jain participated.
