Kundapura: The taluk administration has requested permission from the election commission to make use of the youth craze for selfies’s as attraction towards voting. If they receive permission, the polling booths will definitely witness selfie contest.
It has been planned to convert polling booths into an area of activity other than observing the usual crowd including police and party candidate agents. The specialty this time is that instead of standing for hours under sun, introduction of token system will be attempted.
Since it is a holiday on voting day, time should not be spent at cinema theaters or by watching cricket. To inspire youth to come to polling booths and utilize their right to vote, the selfie contest is being organized, explained the district administration. If permission is given, the contest will take place.
This contest will be conducted at areas where voters below the age of 30 are more in number. Touch screen facility will be provided. St. Mary High School, Kodiya Baireees High School for working class youth and Amasebailu Higher Primary school for naxal areas have been selected.
After casting ones vote, the voter needs to stand in front of the selfie point and flash their ink marked finger and whatsapp it to a prescribed number. After election select five will be gifted with a tab or an phone.
