Mangalore: A seminar styled as CanPlast 2013 promoted by Canara Plastic Manufacturers and Traders Association (CPMTA), to discussed solid waste management and plastic materials recycling was held in city on Monday Dec.23. Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) co sponsored in the seminar and its precedent, Mohammed Ameen made a speech on the occasion on plastic usage and disposal.
The seminar was inaugurated by health minister U T Khader, who dwelt on the need to find and alternative plastic articles before plastic is banned from the markets. Like tobacco which was banned for its poison contempt and diseases it created, plastic as a material haunts human civilization, as an alternative to plastic has not been found yet, he said. While the environmentalists want a ban on plastics the traders resist such a move in their own interest as such the usage and disposal of plastic materials has become an unsolved problem for both groups, Khader noted.
KCCI Chief, Mohemmed Ameen told that plastic management had become a dead issue in this country and it is difficult to wish it away, as market buyers use plastic products in season and out of season these days as it is a light weight material and can only been burnt and not hidden in a pit.
Tushar Kanti Bandopadhyaya, K Rasool Khan and Sapna (K K Plastic Work Management, Bangalore) all plastic technologists presented their papers on problems relating to plastics in modern life and the solutions they offered. T Raghavenra Rao of Mumbai read out his thoughts on ‘Innovative MSW Management System’.
