Mangalore: It was a unique event, a day to rejoice, enjoy and a day out for the home confined 150 senior citizens of the city. They were escorted by the Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery members and embarked on a “Free Cruise Voyage” in the Phalguni River on 14.03.2014. They danced, sang, and played games and underwent free health check-up. It was a memorable day for them for jubilation and celebration.
President of Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery Ln. Shamitha Sanjay in her address revealed that this novel project was initiated by the club as a part of their community development service projects in general and for the senior citizens in particular. During the course of the voyage all the passengers are subjected to free health check up by the doctors from KMC. A general check up such as vision, ENT, blood sugar, blood pressure, dental health. Dr. Trisha and her team of doctors will offer their services and distribute free medicines to the needy and all the participants will be provided with complementary Breakfast, Lunch and Refreshments.
Mr. Oswald Rodrigues, Retd. AGM of Corporation Bank was the chief guest on this occasion. Mr. P.S. Prabhakar, E.C. member of Mangalore Senior Citizens Association coordinated this programme. Mr. Damodar Hegde in his vote of thanks thanked the ISKCON for providing free lunch and thanked the Lions Past Dist Governor Ln. J.K. Rao for sponsoring the free cruise voyage for the pleasure of the senior citizens.
Vice President of the club Ln. Latha Raj, Past President Ln. Kalpana Vasani and Lioness Sumangala Prabhakar conducted games for the senior citizens. Mr. Laveen, Health Officer, KMC coordinated the medical check-up programme. Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery is the only all ladies voluntary service organization comprising of 50 active members who are engaged in voluntary community development oriented services.
