Mangalore: Tomorrow, Sunday, is Teacher’s Day, which is also Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s birthday.
Dr. Radhakrishnan is one of the greatest Indians and the personification of Plato’s dream of a President-Philosopher of a country like Greece in his days. Dr. R. was our ambassador to USSR and was respected by Stalin who ruled the Soviet Republics after World War II. Dr. R. had a lot many Doctorate degrees of honour and was a mediator in East-West philosophy and interpretation. He was called back to India from Moscow to be the Vice-President and chairman of Rajya Sabha. After Dr. Rajendra Prasad retired completing 2 terms, Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President. Earlier he was a lecturer in Madras Presidency College at Marina.
On this day, students pay their respects to teachers whom they fear and love for their erudition. In India traditionally the Guru is looked upon as guide and God, in arts and philosophy.
