Mangaluru: Corporation has decided to install seven more E-Toilets to its league of already installed E-Toilets. The new installations will come up at seven places including Light House Road, Kaprigudda, Valencia Park, Padavinangady and Kankanady. The previous 3 E-Toilet installations were sponsored by HPCL and the remaining toilets will be installed through the Corporation’s 14th Finance Plan.

Currently there are two E-Toilets (male and female) at Lal Bhag bus stop; two are at Kadri Park and one in Hampankatta that are functioning.

This E-Toilet facility has already been employed in Kerala, Bengaluru, Mysuru and other places and has been introduced into Mangaluru for the first time. Mangaluru is getting ready for the second phase of E-Toilet installation.

An E-Toilet costs 7lac rupees and is portable. Coins need to be used to make use of the toilet and counterfeit coins maintain the door locked. The tech used in the toilets is GPS enabled and is directly connected to company’s office. In the case of a malfunction and alert is immediately issued to the company office and service engineers hastily rectify the same.

Since the toilets are coin operated, a monthly income of 1500rs to 2000rs is expected to be collected from them.

E-Toilet facility is a new facility introduced into Mangaluru and most localities are not totally aware of its usage. Illiterates and uneducated people have no clue on how to make use of E-Toilets and hence the total use of this facility is pretty less. Few individuals use this toilet facility to smoke up cigarettes.

This modern technology infused E-Toilet is self operated once a coin is deposited in its designated area. One can make use of the toilet when the light is green. Red means the toilet is in use. Pop the coin into the designated area and the door of the toilet opens.

As soon as the door is locked from the inside, inbuilt facilities like light, fan and others automatically start working. After the use of toilet the water is self propagated to clean the area. Hand wash basin is in the outside of the toilet. There is a 250 to 300 liters capacity over head tank.

For the use of 3mins, 1.5liters of flush is self activated and for use exceeding 3mins 4.5lts is used. For every ten users the toilet self cleans itself.
