Mangalore : Due to the unprecedented floods experiencing in rain-ravaged Kashmir valley, seven members of a family hailing from Jeppu in the city have been stranded in and efforts to rescue them is in progress.
The stranded people are identified as Jeppu resident and former governor of Lions Club Krishnanda Rao (J K Rao), his wife Lata Mallika Rao, their relatives Ramanand Rao, Sowmini Rao, Veekshita Rao, Anil Rao, and Rajashree Rao who have got stuck in Jammu and Kashmir since floods have cut off all communications and movement of traffic.
Former state minister and relative of the above family, Krishna J Palemar, said that the he has put his effort by contacting union railway minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, and other officials to extend their help.
It is learnt that the family had left the city for touring Jammu and Kashmir by train on August 28 and have been in contact with friends and relatives here over phone after visiting all the places there. The family made the last call from Avantipura in southern Kashmir on September 6 at 5.30 pm.
After knowing about the flood in Kashmir through Television news the relatives and friends tried to call all the above persons but their mobile phones gave the message of switched off.
While tracking the call details it is revealed that the family had made the last call from house belonging to Maimoona Banu and Mohammed Amin in Avantipura in Pulwana district. Based on the information the officials visited the spot and found the family to be safe and an effort to bring them back to Karnataka is on.
Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda also instructed railway officials to get involved with this task.
