Mangaluru: A clash between two undertrials led to a fight among two groups of undertrails in the Mangaluru District Prison on Monday evening, resulting in injury to the prison’s Jailor, three prison staff and five police constables.
According to the police, the two undertrials fought, while they were returning to their cells after meeting visitors around 5 p.m. Their fight intensified after their supporters started throwing chairs and other objects at one another.
Jailor S.B. Patil tried to intervene but was injured by a sharp object that fell on his left arm. Three prison staff and five police constables who went inside to bring the situation under control were also injured.
Later, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya and Assistant Commissioner of Police Uday Nayak went to the prison with Karnataka State Reserve Police personnel. They then put the fighting members back in their cells and brought the situation under control.
The two injured undertrials, the prison staff and the police constables were taken to the Government Wenlock Hospital for treatment.
A case was registered against the two undertrials in the Barke Police Station.
