Bantwal : At least four persons were injured when a mob attacked the SDPI office at Kaikamba BC Road on May 26, Sunday evening. According to reports dozens of people attacked the office and assaulted SDPI activists.
Ishaq(32), a resident of Kalladka, Azharuddin Fairoz (26) and Jabbar (26) – both residents of Bolanthoor and Riyaz (22), a resident of Shanti Angadi have been hospitalized.Of them Ishaq has sustained serious head injuries. The assailants also damaged the flex boards, furnitures and a bus shelter in the vicinity. The police led by Circle Inspector Anil S Kulkarni who rushed to the spot, Brough the situation under control.
Police had to also resort to a mild lathi charge to quell the mob. The incident took place after the Bantwal police took an SDPI worker into custody in connection with the recent attack on an auto rickshaw driver who is also a Congress activist.
In fact resentment has been brewing between the two groupe even prior to the assembly elections. The entire Kaikamba area was in grip of fear following the incident.
Additional police forces have been rushed and the situation is presently said to be under control.
