Mangalore: Students who are members of the district unit of the Students Federation of India boycotted classes and stated a protest opposite the DC office on July 12, Thursday demanding implementation of several of their demands including effective implementation of RTE in schools.
Addressing the agitators, Nitin Kuttar, District President of SFI said several schools were found not adhering to the RTE rules as per which 25 per cent seats in private schools should be reserved for poor and marginalized children.
Another demand of the SFI was to form a committee led by the Deputy Commissioner to put a tab on the donation menace in schools and colleges.
He also expressed his grouse over the failure of the government to fulfill various demands of teachers.
Razaq Montepadavu, District Secretary, SFI, also spoke. The agitators submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking early fulfillment of their demands.
