14.06.10 Mangalore : There are over 14,000 physically handicapped kids in DK dt. These children will be helped out of 3% state funds, set apart for social welfare in an honest attempt to alleviate their sufferings, stated women / children welfare department Deputy Director Shakuntala, inaugurating an annual convention of DK dt. Physically impaired at the Town Hall on Sunday (June 13) morning, and addressing a large Audience.
The PH union which organised the annual meet had created opportunities for disabled children in various ways, to enjoy the benefits given by the state, to hold their own status in a society around them. There are special schools and social activities in which the disabled can excel, she added.
Nitte University V.C. Dr. Shantaram Shetty presided on the annual celebration. The disabled children received scholarships from Dr. Shetty. Identity cards, health care expenses, and Lucky Dip prizes were also distributed to many of them. Dr. Muralidhar Nayak, welcomed the guests.
Puttaswamy, officer in the Department of senior citizens and disabled people’s welfare was the chief guest. BJP leader Srikar Prabhu, Lawyer Arun Shetty, KMC professor Dr. M. Prabha, Hotelier Dinesh Shetty and M. Vishwanath were present on the dais.
