New Delhi: Shiv Menon, the only son of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, has sent a letter to the media, stating that speculations regarding his mother’s death are ‘outrageous’.
In the letter, he denies that his mother would have committed suicide and adds that Shashi Tharoor would never have killed her.
The media attention his mother’s death is receiving, has ‘devastated’ him, he says. “Anyone who knew my mother would know she was simply too strong to commit suicide”, the letter said, adding that “I also do not believe that Shashi was capable of physically harming her let alone take her life”. They were very much in love, the letter says.
Meanwhile, the Sub Divisional Magistrate probing Pushkar’s death has called for further investigations into the incident.
‘My mother would never have committed suicide’ Although Delhi police gave a clean chit to Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday after the AIIMS autopsy report said that the injuries seen on Sunanda’s body is unrelated to her death, Sub-Divisional Magistrate hints at more probe into Shashi’s involvement in the death.
Apart from three major injury on wrist, chin and neck, doctors at AIIMS claim that she had more than a dozen brazen scuffle marks on the upper part of her body.
Already, Tharoor’s political rivals including the CPI(M) and the Kerala BJP has called for his resignation. However, the Congress party has stood behind Tharoor.
In the report, the SDM said that the relationship between Pushkar and her husband were strained. More investigation is needed to find out if there was any abetment to her death, which could be a suicide.
As of yet, investigators say that Pushkar died of a drug poisoning due to overdose. CNN-IBN reports that the nature of the poisoning, which will define whether it was a suicide or homicide, will only be certain once the viscera report comes in. For now the police will have to further investigate the case and may have to register a case if they suspect foul play.
