Mangalore: The Margashira Shasti (6th day after Amavasya) festival held in Kukke (Champashasti) Subrahmanya, Vitla Srimad Ananteshwara, Manjeshwar Anantheshwara and Kudupu Anantha Padmanabha temples, culminated with divine worship images being taken in a large car procession (Brahma Rathotsava), with enthusiastic devotees pulling the huge decorated cars full of flowers, flags and plantain leaves, by thick ropes on a pre0determined round of path and back, to the shouts of Jai-Jaikars by throngs of rural/urban people crowding the main car streets.
In Kukke, devotees rolled in tow to three thousands, on leftover plantain leaves after the dinners of devotee Brahmins as a hoary tradition, now looked down upon by dalits.
The grand lovely cars were majestically down by all devotees, irrespective of caste marks.
Several coconuts were broken to ward off evil, before pulling the huge fascinating cars in all holy pilgrimage centres.
Several thousand devotees had midday Prasad (offerings) meals at the various centres, as at Kukke.
The temple Trustees, administrators, priests, and cooks did a fine job in carrying out their holy duties.
