Mangaluru: Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat Charitable Trust will observe the centenary of Yakshagana and Harikatha artiste, late Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat, in Marigudi in Tadambail, Suratkal, on April 6.
Trust joint secretary P V Rao said that the centenary celebrations of Sheni were organised in various parts of Kasargod, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, during the year.
Yakshagana artistes, art patrons and organisers were awarded Sheni centenary award. A total of 103 programmes were organised including 15 harikatha, 10 Yakahagana Bayalata and 78 Talamaddale performances.
To mark the valedictory of the centenary programmes, Yakshagana Prosody expert Narayana Shetty Shimantur, Bhagavat Agari Raghuram, Yakshagana accompaniment trainer Mambadi Subrahmanya Bhat, Yakshagana critic and scholar Dr Raghava Nambiar and art patron V Nagendra Bharadwaj will be awarded Sheni centenary award on the occasion.
Harikathe ‘Satyameva Jayate’ will be delivered by P V Rao at 2.30 pm. Mahila Yakshagana Mandali, Gadige Hole Sirsi will perform a Yakshagana play ‘Bhishma Vijaya’ from 6 pm to 9 pm, he added.
Trustee and Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor were present.
