Mangalore : Mangalore City Corporation in association with Suvarna Jayanthi Sangha, Samudhaya Abhivriddhi Sangha organized an Informational camp on ‘Solid Waste Management’ a Scouts and Guides Bhavan on August 26, Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak, said that the MCC has decided to collect the waste compost from every house of the city compulsorily and recycles it.
She also said that today MCC is getting highest complaint from the public in the matter of waste management. But after seeing at the demonstration to produce the vermin compost from the waste, people may not give the waste to the waste collectors, she added.
Harish Joshi, retired principal of St Aloysius College, before the demonstration said that today the environment pollution is caused due to the waste thrown in the streets.
He also said that we can collect waste from our house and produce good quality manure, through the vermin technology.
Today Cuba country has secured the first place in agriculture since people produce manure for the agriculture by themselves. He asked the women to not bother about the process, but the association will give the earth worms, which eats the waste and produce the compost for the plants. This earth worm is the gift of nature to preserve the nature called as bio engine. These worms do not affect any lives and is harmless. He urged the people to use natural manure than using harmful chemicals.
Jayaprakash Nayak, senior scientific officer, MCC Joint Commissioner Vijayakumari Shenoy were present on the dais.
