Puttur: Considering a double murder which had took place at Shiradi as a rarest case, Puutur’s fifth additional district court has pronounced death penalty to the accused of the case, on Friday.
Jayesh is the convicted murderer. Murder case was registered on him under IPC Section 450, 392 and 302 and the court based on these sections pronounced him hang till his death. It is the second case where death penalty has been pronounced by the Puttur court. Previously the court had pronounced death penalty to Ramesh Naik for murdering his two children, mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Jayesh was facing a murder case which took place on August 2, 2008 Where Soumya and her son Jishnu were murdered by Jayesh. Till now 27 witnesses have given their statement to the court. The court on Tuesday had pronounced Jayesh as the offender in the case and reserved the penalty announcement on Friday.
Jayesh had murdered his cousin’s wife by stabbing her using a lethal weapon and robbed ‘Mangal soothra’ and ear rings. He also killed her three year old son Jishnu. Then he went back to Kerala with robbed gold. Soumya’s husband Lohith had registered a complaint in police station.
“When I came back from work I saw my cousin Jayesh running out of my house when I asked him where he is going, then he said that he will return back in a minute. I went to home and called my wife, she didn’t open the door. When I went inside I saw my wife and son were brutally murdered.” This was the statement given by Lohith during filing the complaint. He had also mentioned that Jayesh killed his wife and son for the sake of jewellery.
At that time Jayesh was only 19-years-old youth and due to his criminal activities he was thrown out of his house. After the murder he was absconded in Kerala and had married to a Muslim girl. He had also changed his name as Shakir alias Sahir.
After his marriage he had created a nuisance case at his house. He was threatening to commit suicide by jumping from coconut tree after having some quarrelling with his wife. Police intervened in the matter and took him to custody. When they interrogated Jayesh they found that he is a accused of Shiradi double murder case.
Then he was produced before the court on October 11, 2012 and court had remanded him for judicial custody.
Interestingly, Jayesh had also tried to escape from the court premises. He tried to escape from the balustrade of the court and lawyers with the help of locals succeeded to catch him near Mini Vidhana Soudha of Puttur.
Police had recovered the ‘Mangal soothra’ of Soumya from a jewellery shop which was the prime evidence in the case.
Present Bantwal division DySP Raveesh and SI Maruthi were the investigation officers. M Uday Kumar was the public prosecutor in the case.
