Kundapur : The entire Shiroor town of citizens and shopkeepers left all other work and joined the protest against poor conditions of a National Highway passing through their town which required total repairs of the Highway before it can be used by passing heavy traffic.
The shops were closed due to the dust of the road blowing into the shops. The people protested because they could walk on the highway or use their vehicles for the purpose of driving through.
A patch work was done earlier to this stretch of damaged road, with stone peaces and tar by the engineers concerned which made it even more difficult to work or to drive a vehicle on the patched highway.
The road is from Kunadapur to Goa and his heavily field with small and large vehicles with goods.
Y Krishna Rao who is in charge of the part of highway damaged and to be repaired told angry protesters as an engineer that there was a shortage of founds to repair the road in a proper way, hence a patch work was done for the time being. He added that a tender had been called for the required repairs but there was a delay in allotting the work to a contractor who could do the work admirably.
The protesters were not satisfied which such answers and threatened to intensify the straggle until the whole Highway was properly repaired in a short time.
