Mangaluru : The first Sunday of weekend lockdown seen deserted look and shops remained closed as continues on in the state to contain the rising number of coronavirus cases.
Shoppers are allowed to shop till 10 am during the curfew. A few restaurants with only takeaway services and online food deliveries are functioning. People were seen thronging the markets for groceries and other essentials on early morning.
Meanwhile, a strict weekend lockdown came into effect in the main cities and towns of Karnataka including Mangaluru from Friday night, and it will remain in force till Monday morning. Also a night curfew has been imposed across the state from 9 pm to 6 am.
Police have ensured strict implementation of the weekend lockdown on first day on Saturday. Police are also seeing to it that no one is unnecessarily travelling except for medical or any other emergency work.
Karnataka continues to see a surge in the number coronavirus cases with nearly 30,000 new infections being reported in the span of just 24 hours. The state also recorded highest single-day spike on Saturday.
