Mangalore: A tipper vehicle that used to transport crushed stones from mining sites to destinations in the District, was engulfed in flames on Monday afternoon, on Sept.12, on the national highway near Shivanagar, in Hejamady, Padubidri, and was reduced to ashes soon.
The tipper had emptied a load of crushed stones at Konaje near Mangalore and was returning to its base at Belman in Halekatte village, when the accident of short circuit took place.
Smoke filled the cabin unawares. Locals could not approach the carrier. Driver Basappa sensed the heat and flames, stopped the vehicle urgently, and jumped out to safety. There were cracking sounds and fire went up.
The ill fated tipper was owned by Nagesh Poojary. The fire brigade from UPC Ltd. came late and extinguished the fire that had destroyed the mini truck. Police registered a case in Padubidri over the event.
