Mangaluru: All establishments, including educational institutions, commercial buildings, industries, hospitals, religious places and bus stands with a crowd density of more than 100 people or 500 visitors per day should install CCTV cameras, as under the recent amendments to Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Act, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth said.
“The Traffic Department will oversee the implementation of the Act. There are provisions in the Act to penalise violators,” she said at the phone-in programme conducted by the Mangaluru Commissionerate of police.
Responding to a resident’s complaint about fish trucks, the DCP promised to direct deputy director of Fisheries Department to initiate strict action against trucks spilling fish waste water on the road.
A resident from Moodbidri demanded action against children aged below 18 years riding vehicles. Another resident complained against drivers parking private buses bound to Mumbai near Milagres Church as it causes hindrance to other vehicles.
A citizen suggested clearing of barricades erected on the road during important events. Even after the programme, the barricades lie unattended on the road, the resident said.
A resident raised apprehensions on the safety of children, as school vans ferry as many as 24 children in a single trip.
A senior citizen sought the help of police to ensure that instructions were written in Kannada language. Also, the bus conductors should ensure that senior citizens get seats, he added.

A resident felt the need of a barricade near Thokkottu overbridge. Another resident of Attavar raised objection against the dumping of construction material on the road opposite Athena Hospital in Falnir. The slabs on the foothpath in Bunts Hostel Circle had worn out posing a threat to children and elderly people.
There were complaints against parking of vehicles, autorickshaw drivers in Surathkal refusing to collect fare as per the meter reading, city buses not providing tickets to commuters and not stopping at specified bus stops.
