Mangalore: There are three And a half auspicious days in a year among Hindus, namely Ugadi (New Year Khara), Akshaya Tritiya, Vijaya Dashami and a half day on Bali Padyami, when one need not consult a calendar for good moments.
Any good work started on Akshaya Tritiya becomes unlimited, limitless all the year. New projects can be opened and implemented on this day, buying a house, or gold/Jewellery, or starting a new course of education. Mahavishnu and his wife Mahalaxmi worshipped Ganga (river) on this day, so bath in the holy river of Ganga, say in Haridwar or Kashi, all sins are washed clean from our souls. Ganga descended to earth on this day. Krita Yuga (when Sri Rama lived) began this day. Sixth incarnation Parashu Rama and Basaveshwara were born on this auspicious day. Mahavishnu bestows all boons, even salvation, on Akshaya Tritiya, so dear to him, as a pure and sacred day.
Sun and moon at a time show brightness and their heights in heavens. Moon is the reflected light of the burning sun. All good deeds glow on this day. Sun is the power that upholds soul and body, while Moon affects the mind; as such these 3 will reach perfection on Akshaya Tritiya (a limitless third day) in summer. Sri Krishna met and extended hospitality to his schoolmate Kuchela on this day.
Draupadi secured a cooking vessel in which food once prepared does not reduce by praying Sun on this day, on Sri Krishn’a advice to her. She fed Pandavas during their stay in the jungles from the Akshaya Patra. Pandavas got back their bows and arrows, besides other weapons after 14 years on Akshaya Tritiya day.
On such a precious day as a whole, one can make fresh investments never to lose, purchase property and ornaments. This year it starts on May 5 (Thursday) at 3pm (afternoon) with Rohini star and lasts till Friday (6th). Any auspicious good work (say marriage) and housing, donations, money matters bring luck and good results to all, says, astrologer R.Sitaramaiah.
