Mangalore: The Catholic Diocese of Mangalore has organised a large silent march, along with various churches and certain non-religious associations, ending in a protest rally on Sunday, Feb20, said Vicar General Denis Prabhu at Press club today.
The march starts at 3PM from Jyothi Circle and proceeds to Central Maidan in Mangalore, he added.
A memorandum of demands of all Christians and their companion associations would be presented to DC, state CM, and national (UPA) government, to oppose and reject the report of Justice B.K.Somashekhar Commission outright, the Vicar-general told reporter on Thursday (Feb.17) here.
Member of churches from DK, Udupi and Kasaragod districts, and officials of Christian-friendly Secular outfits would take part in the silent march and protest rally. Over 1000 Christians and Churches had made petitions to the Justice B.K.Somashekhar Commission on (Hindu) fundamentalists’ attacks on Churches, but were silenced by the report recently.
The protestors will take exception to “the clean chit” given to BJP and RSS family, even when Bajrang Dal and certain other Hindu fundamental outfits claimed responsibility for repeated church attacks, Denis Prabhu said.
He reeled out demands of the wounded Christian community and sought rejection of BKS Commission report, and asked for an enquiry by CBI, to punish attackers involved in several Church attacks.
About 25,000 Christians were expected to take part in the Sunday’s silent march, and the subsequent protest rally, where speeches will be made attacking Hindu social service organisations of RSS family, Denis Prabhu informed.
Several Christian priests and leaders were present in the media meet.
