Mangalore : The Students Islamic Organization of India, D.K Unit, held a protest meeting in front of the gates of DCO on Tuesday (June 29) at noon, to draw the attention of the Education (HRD) department towards the non-receipt of school text books on time, when the schools have opened on May 28 (a month ago ) and lessons have already been started in various classes.
Speaking on the occasion, SIO leader M. Shahid informed that his organization for the last 27 years had strived to protect the interests of students and improve the educational, moral and intellectual levels among students through various constructive programmes and movements of progressive outlook.
When students need books they are not available. In some schools, only 50% text books were received. The education department has taken upon itself the burden of supplies of text books to avoid private book sellers, but the time lag has caused immense worry, he added.
He made the following immediate demands :
1. There is a failure in the distribution system in regard to text books, and the reasons for such failure, delay and losses should be enquired into and proper information has to be obtained.
2. The students should get their text books as early as possible.
3. The differences of opinion with private schools managements should be cleared quickly.
4. The confusion relating to medium of instruction in private schools should be removed quickly.
5. Parents opinion should be obtained in regard to medium of instruction being English and to implement it, should be explored.
He said these demands were made entirely in the interest of students and their wards.
C.H. Mansoor (D.K Dt. Convenor ), Javed Anas (Mangalore SIO Chief) and Asis (SIO Official ) were present.
