Mangaluru: District administration will strictly implement the Slave Practice Eradication Act in the district, said Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim.
He was speaking in a district level slave practice eradication meeting at DC Office.
Under Slave Practice Eradication Act a committee has been formed under the leadership of DC in the district. In Puttur and Mangaluru sub-divisions Assistant Commissioner will lead the committee.
DC instructed the labour department officials to educate nongovernmental organisations and social workers about the act.
“The victims of the slavery practice should be identified and they should be subjected to rehabilitation. Slavery practice is mockery of humanity. Everyone should join hands with the authorities to eradicate this practice. The victims will be given Rs 1 lakh as the compensation,” he said.
ADC Kumar, Additional SP Vedamoorthy, Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Dr Asohk and others were present.
