Mangalore: Roadside/footpath vendors demanded appropriate facility to carry on their trade in city and conducted a day-long fasting in front of Palika buildings on MG road, in city on Monday shouting slogans al9ong with some sympathizers.
JDS leader M.G Hegde lashed out at MCC to fulfill the simple demands of poor groups of roadside vendors. He accused the tiger Van activists of seizing the commodities meant for ale and then evicting the vendors by force in some important areas of the growing city.
MG hedge criticized the BJP rulers and likened the MCC officials’ behaviour to that of state govt. bigwigs, in regard to poor and the exploited street-corner vendors. Those who evicted street vendors from their places now would soon face eviction from the MCC office, he warned.
Rita Noronha, an activist, asserted in her speech that vendors had right to sell their goods in city but MCC had no right to them out. CITU leader Sunil Bajal, KRRS leader Yadava Shetty and others were among the protestors.
