Mangalore : PV Mohan, AICC Member and Chief Trustee of Social Action Group for Empowerment ((SAGE) has said that the state government need to have a proper approach on the issue of providing compensation to the victims of the deadly pesticide Endosulfan.
Speaking to reporters, he said a report based on the survey on endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada has already been submitted to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad He said the state government should immediately forward a proposal to the Centre on its plans to assist and aid the Endosulfan victims.
He said an interim relief of Rs one lakh to each of the affected family of the region has been assured by the Union Finance Minister, upon a request in this regard from AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes.
Peer Mohammad, President of Alankar Endosulfan Virodhi Horata Samithi, who also spoke said though a survey of nearly 5521 families in Belthangady, Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur had been done, it was not scientific.
Belthangady Block Congress President Harish Kumar made a request for a hospital in Belthangady offering free treatment to Endosulfan victims.
