Mangalore: The Mangalore City Corporation which has failed to form ward committees as per an order issued by the government 15 years ago, came under severe criticism at a meeting of social workers held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mangalore on May 21, Monday under the aegis of ‘Namma Mane Namma Ooru.’
The meeting also decided to move the State High Court against the MCC in this regard. It was pointed out in the meeting that the ward committees were not formed even in a single ward out of the 60 wards in the city.
It was also informed at the meeting that the State Government, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner as well as MCC Commissioner would be made respondents in the case.
Hanumanth Kamath, President of the Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi who spoke, said the ward committees if formed would greatly benefit people of the respective wards as it would monitor the works underway in the ward.
Padmanabha Ullal, consumer rights activist, also spoke on the occasion.
