Mangalore: Aatidonji Dina celebrations organized at the Government Pre-University College at Balmatta was inaugurated by Dr K Abhayakumar, Head of the Department of Kannada of Mangalore University, on July 22, Sunday.
The programme was organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Chutuku Sahitya Parishat, Government Girls High School, Balmatta and Guest Lecturers Association of Government First Grade College Balmatta.
In his address, Dr Abhay Kumar spoke on the social and cultural significance of Aati. He also highlighted the scientific rationale behind celebrating Aati as well as preparation of various aati speciality dishes.
On this occasion, Karingana Janardhan Master, noted writer and Raja, a folk artiste, were honoured by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President.
Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishat President Professor Krishnamurthy presided over the function.
The participants of the programme relished a number of Aati delicacies including ‘Manjaldha Iretha Gatti,’ ‘Pelakai Happala,’ ‘Rachedha Chutney,’ ‘Kadlebele Payasa,’ ‘Peladha Pachiru,’ ‘Moode,’ ‘Panaka’. There were even cultural programmes.
