Mangalore: Hundreds of enthusiasts had gathered at the grounds adjacent to the Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple at Badaga Edapadavu, Mijar on the morning of May 17, Thursday, when the much awaited Halli Cricket II, a rural cricket tourney organized by the temple and the Bhajana Mandali, kicked off to a colourful start. The star attraction of the event was none other than Sohail Khan, the bollywood celebrity who was the cynosure of all eyes. Another celebrity who graced the occasion was Avinash Adik, a bollywood producer.Nearly 77 rural teams are taking part in this cricket tourney which will conclude on May 20, Sunday.
Sohail Khan inaugurated the tourney by lighting the traditional lamp along with Premalatha Shetty, mother of Vijaynath Shetty, entrepreneur and chief co-ordinator of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Khan expressed his immense pleasure in taking part in the inaugural of this spectacular event in a rural area and also recalled his visit to the place two year ago.
Avinash Adik who also spoke appreciated Vijaynath Shetty’s endeavour to revive the glory of rural sports, art and culture, through such events.
Sohail also batted to the bowling of the first team which was taking part in the event and much to the delight of the gathering hit several sixers.
Vijaynath Shetty, chief co-ordinator of the event, office bearers of the Bhajana Mandali and several others were present.
The valedictory to be held on May 20 will be graced by legendary cricketer GR Vishwanath who will give away the prizes.
