Mangalore : Former minister B Janardhana Poojary slammed the probe report on church attacks in Karnataka as a failure.
He said that, BK Somashekhara, a former judge, was assigned to investigate the attacks by the newly-elected BJP government which was confronting its first major crisis, but as the investigation was completed, the result as a failure.
In September 2008, churches were vandalized in different parts of Karnataka like Mangalore, Udupi, Chickaballapur, Davangere, Bellary and Bangalore. The idols were destroyed and the priests were attacked and the world witnessed the acts of VHP, Bhajarangdal and Sri Ram Sene activist who were involved in it, through the television telecast. But the commission failed to consider it.
The people urged for CBI probe during the time and even to the present day it urges for the same demand. Now the Government has implemented Padmaraj Commission and even it will give the same verdict, he said.
Even though Mahendra Kumar has accepted his involvement in the attack, he has been left free. So it is proved that this commission is of no use. He is retired justice, hence the government must appoint the working justice for the commission, he added.
He further said that the congress party will stage protest in case the culprits are not punished. He also urged the central government to dissolve the state government.
Congress leaders like Kallige Tharnath Shetty, Hariskrishna Bantwal, MG Hegde and Arun Coehlo were present.
