Guang-Zhou (China): Somdev Devburman, a young rising Tennis star on the Indian horizon, often playing in USA, won the gold medal in the absence of stalwarts like Paes, Bhupathi and Bopanna. He created history in Indian Tennis. He defeated the top seed Uzbek Denis Istomin, ranked for higher than him (Somdev), by 6-1, 6-2. India also gained 2 bronzes today, taking gold to 7 and bronze to 20.
Yuki Bhambri did not participate in this event, so Somdev carried all the burden on his shoulders.
The final did not create any tussle, as Somdev was in high spirits against his better opponent who settled for a silver.
