Mangaluru : The Mangaluru City Cooperation(MCC) followed HC order, decided upon to open Central Market in the city, it was shut down in the time of covid-19 pandemic on April.
Merchants were asked to shift the business to APMC yard in Baikampady, they filled a writ petition in HC. Court delivered verdict in favour of merchants, the city corporation has asked merchants, who have trade license to open their shops at the Central Market.
The mayor Diwakar said, the High Court in a writ petition has directed that business. Activities as per law should be allowed at the Central Market Accordingly, we have already communicated to all merchants that those who have trade license, may meet the commissioner to reopen their shops at the Central Market. After verifying the documents, merchants will be allowed to continue business activities on certain conditions.
We are collecting information on all traders, who have valid trade license in their own names. At present only 30 out of 264 retail merchants have trade license in their own names. Hence, only those original license holders will be allowed to continue activities said by Diwakar.
Some shops at the Central Market in Mangaluru have opened shutters Sunday morning. Though the main gates of the market is not yet open, traders are hopeful that the Mangaluru City Corporation officials would ensure electricity and water supply to the building by Monday.
