New Delhi: In a statement recorded by a magistrate, a Ugandan woman has identified Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti as the man who led a late night raid at her house last week, reports NDTV.com.
The woman claimed Bharti’s muffler helped her identify him when he appeared on TV the next day.
Bharti has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has strongly supported him.
The woman recorded her statement in camera under Sec 164 of CrPC. The statement has been now given to police in a sealed cover and will be opened only during the trial.
The police had already filed an FIR against unknown persons for molestation and wrongful restraint after the Ugandan women complained. The women had alleged that people used abusive language against them and detained them on the night of the raid. They alleged they were mistreated.
Kejriwal along with his ministers had raised the matter with Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and demanded the suspension of the policemen. The Lieutenanat Governor had ordered a judicial probe in the incident.
