Mangaluru: Intending to let passengers have a safe and comfortable journey, Southern Railway has introduced the concept of ‘Train Captain’ on six trains, one of which is the Mangaluru-Chennai Mail.

The other trains that will have the captain are Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Mail and Super Fast Express, Chennai Egmore-Madurai Pandian Express, Chennai Egmore-Thiruchchirapalli Rockfort Express and Chennai Central-Mettupalayam Nilagiri (Blue Mountain) Express.

R Anoop Kumar, Chief Ticket Inspector attached to the Kannur Depot of Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division, on Monday was selected to be the Train Captain on train number 12602, the Mangaluru Central-Chennai Central Super Fast Mail.

Anoop Kumar has 26 years of experience as a ticket inspector/examiner. His mobile number was displayed on the reservation chart so that passengers could easily contact him via SMS or call, in case they had any problems during the journey.

A team of five ticket examiners and other staff travelled with Anoop on board and it is said that if he was unable to resolve any issues, he could contact senior officers.
