Mangaluru : Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) held stir demanding minimum monthly pay of Rs 26000 per month in all the railway stations in the southern railway on Thursday.
As the Central government has failed to meet their demands, as planned earlier, SRMU will stop their work from 11 July from morning 6. The central government has only offered to pay a meager increment, but union has rejected it.
General Secretary and working president of All India Railway Employees Federation, N.Kanniah announced that the Central government has accepted to re-examine the demands of employees and also re-examine the 52 allowances it rejected which was mentioned in seventh pay commission. It has promised to set up a committee and submit a new acceptable proposal within four months.
He further said that since the employees are demanding for hike in the minimum wages, the government is not accepting the demand. It had caused great discontentment among not only the railway employees but also among other central government employees. This triggered anger among the employees.
Unnikrishnan, Assistant General Secretary, SRMU, Palghat and J.Ananda, Secretary of Mangalore SRMU and Division President addressed the employees.
