Belthangady : Santosh Rao, the only person arrested in connection with the Sowjanya rape and murder case, who is presently lodged in Mangalore prison, will be shifted to the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore. The CID police who are investigating the case of Sowjanya murder, have decided to shift Santosh who was allegedly mentally ill, so that he can be provided treatment in Bangalore.
Reports said CID sleuths have already appealed to the court in this regard and the consent was delayed mainly because rules say even the accused will have to agree to the same. Sources said Santosh seemed mentally stable otherwise, but only pretended ill and remained silent whenever asked any question regarding Sowjanya rape and murder case.
It may be recalled here that Ujire SDM College student Sowjanya was found dead near Pangala on October 9 and it was suspected to be a rape and murder case. Police have until now been successful in arresting only Santosh Rao in connection with the case though there is a strong suspicion that many more persons were involved.
