Mangaluru : Eminent playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam has been chosen for the Alva’s Virasat Award 2015, which would be conferred on him on the first day of the Virasat, December 24, at Moodabidri.
A release from Alva’s Education Foundation here said the Virasat will be held from December 24 to 27.
The Virasat award carries Rs. 1 lakh purse among other things. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam, who entered playback singing with Shree Shree Maryadaaramanna Telugu movie, has so far sung over 35,000 songs in 15 languages in the last 40 years, said a press release.
The Virasat will be inaugurated by Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade on December 24 at Vanajakshi K. Shreepati Bhat Vedike, Puttige, Moodabidri, at 5.30 pm in the presence of Nitte University Chancellor N. Vinay Hegde, Minister K. Abhayachandra Jain and others.
The cultural programmes on that day include special fusion of four violins by Mysuru Nagaraj, Mysuru Manjunath, Ganesh and Kumaresh Chennai from 7 pm. It will be followed by orchestra by S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and troupe from 9 pm.
Friday’s cultural programmes include Saxophone recital by Kadri Gopalanath and team from 6.15 pm, followed by Kawwali and Sufi songs by Ustad Munavar Masum and troupe, Mumbai, from 9 pm.
Naadasangama, an ensemble of all percussion instruments by Kalaimamani Shivamani, supported by Harmeet Manseta on keyboard and U. Rajesh on Mandolin will form part of programmes on Saturday from 6.15 pm. Alva’s students will perform from 8.30 pm.
The concluding day will witness conferring of the Alva’s Varna Virasat Award on Manu Parekh, New Delhi at 5.50 pm. It would be followed by musical extravaganza featuring playback singers Vijay Prakash, Mumbai, Karthik, Chennai and Mahalakshmi Aiyer, Kerala, from 6.15 pm.
