Mangalore: City MLA J.R. Lobo and a host of sports officials welcomed the silver medal winners Dyanan and Tajman – and their coach Narayan who returned from Newcastle, Australia after taking part in special Para Olympic Games in Cricket, held for disabled persons there recently.
These sportsmen from Abroad were received at the KSRTC bus station in Bejei by the MLA and his team.
Speaking on the occasion coach Narayan related the problems of the 2 cricketers and himself in going to Australia to play in a global tournament securing silver medal for the country each of them had to shell out Rs. 2 lakhs, to realize their dreams of representing India in international specially abled Para Olympic Games. He pointed out that the Govt. in Chandigarh had paid out Rs. 5 lakhs each to their members in the Indian team, but Karnataka Govt. did not help us with a single rupee. He pleaded with the Govt. to compensate the expanses for the 3 participants in Australia who brought glory for India in cricket play.
J.R. Lobo in his reply stated that the 3 persons who went to Newcastle to play cricket in the Indian team at the Special Olympic Games, never informed the concerned MLA or the State Govt. officials before their departure to Australia to represent India. Nevertheless, he said, an amount of Rs. 50,000 only to each of the 3 persons who have returned now with silver medals will be given as a reward, and asked them to keep the Govt. informed well in advance in future trips Abroad.
