Mangalore : Spicmacay, a nonprofit and non political voluntary movement working towards preserving our rich and diverse culture heritage and propagating it to the youth of the present generation, said Spicmacay state secretary Srihari.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on June 29, Saturday, he said that Spicmacay and Doordarshan is planning to host a serious reality show on classical music to inspire the youth by our classical music and to encourage and reward the best practitioner amongst them.
Recently, a game out of reality shows through various private television channels has caught the attention of public viewing. Spicmacay feels that a similar platform can be used for promoting and popularizing our classical arts, he said.
He also said that Naadbhed or Naad Vismay will give a platform for the children who have been deprived from getting an opportunity to participate in TV reality show. This show will help to popularize competition of classical music, taking classical music into every house.
The Spicmacay to organize a national competition of classic music ‘Naadbhed’ with the support of Doordarshan would be broadcast across the country. Spicmacay and Doordarshan will produces the rogramme taking on board great masters of Indian Classical music as judges like Prof T N Krishnan, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Begum Parveen Sultana, Vid T V Shankaranarayanan, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Vidhushi Vedavalli, Vid RK Srikanthan.
The interested participants from across the state country can participate through the regional rounds of competition at Doordarshan’s 20 regional Kendra with quarter finals being conducted at Kolkata for Hindustani music contestants with judges from Sangeet Research Academy and at Chennai for Carnatic music contestants with judges from Madras Music Academy. All the rounds will culminate in national final on DD National Network. The aim with this initiative is to romote and popularizes our classical music all over the country. The show will be hosted by Shabhana Azmi.
The contestant can bag awards in six categories like Vid M S Subbalaxmi Yuvapuraskar for Carnatic Vocal, Vid Shiek Chinna Maulana Yuvapuraskar for Carnatic Instrumental, Vid Phalghat Mani Aiyar Yuvapuraskar for Accompanist, Pt Bhimsen Joshi Yuvapuraskar for Hindustani Vocal, Pt Ravishankar Yuvapuraskar for Hindustani instrumental and Ustad Allah Rakha Yuvapuraskar for Hindustani accompanist.
In each category the winner will get Rs 3 lakhs as cash awards. One mega winner in each form, Hindustani and Carnatic music will win Rs One million each.
